Our Story
Front + Birch began in 2004 with a simple but heartfelt idea: bring beautifully made, thoughtfully sourced goods to the Pemberton Valley. Founder Sweda Franken opened the doors of her curated home and lifestyle store in the heart of Pemberton, BC — a small mountain community nestled 30 minutes north of Whistler, surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the province.
What started as a passion project rooted in a love of design, craft, and community has grown into a beloved local institution. For over 22 years, Front + Birch has been the place where locals and visitors alike come to find something special — a gift, a keepsake, a piece for the home that tells a story.

We've always believed that where something comes from matters. That's why we've made it our mission to champion local makers, BC artisans, and Canadian creators. From handcrafted ceramics and textiles to pantry staples and home décor, the majority of what you'll find on our shelves was made right here in British Columbia or somewhere across this incredible country.

A local community organization propelled Sweda's dream forward and helped breathe life into her vision. Front + Birch offers a selection of functional and beautiful quality goods, from housewares, kitchen essentials, and handmade jewellery, to body care, wellness items, and other unique products that add to the warmth of your home or show off your impeccable gift giving skills. The products are inspired by the natural beauty of the Sea to Sky region and Canadian businesses.

I love this store! If I ever need something for the kitchen, bathroom, living room decor, gifts for X-mas, etc. - they have lots! I always go in there for one thing and come out with more! It's one of my favourite stores in Pemberton!
